Changes In Sun Protection Practices With Increased Awareness Of The Dangers Of Uv Exposure Are Making Change Happen

Changes in sun protection practices with increased awareness of the dangers of UV exposure are keeping skin cancer rates on the decline. It's one of those things that we just don't think about-we grew up worshiping the sun and it's really difficult to imagine something that seems so natural, so positive, being something so wrong.

I remember my days in the sun as a child as being incredibly positive ones. There was nothing quite like getting a tan while sitting in the sand or running in the waves. I will admit it, I always loved to be tan. I'm fair skinned so I had more than my share of sunburns but I never really minded, I knew that it wouldn't take long to turn into a nice shade of brown and that it would make my freckles come out even more.

Never would I have imagined that the sun could be killing me. We have learned so much about the sun's harmful rays over the past several decades. We owe it to our children and ourselves to protect our skin. Doing something as simple as applying sunscreen or wearing a hat to cover your head and face when you're going to be out in the sun can save your skin and your life.

With the way we were taught that the sun would bring us health and happiness, it's actually amazing that changes in sun protection practices with increased awareness of the dangers of UV exposure have come about.

The sun is shining brighter than ever and those who say they don't believe that there's any such thing as global warming really are seeing the light, pardon the pun. We're all realizing that the sun is our friend, but one we've got to be leery of. Everything in moderation, you know? Many people get confused; it seems that there are conflicting stories on whether or not we should soak in the sun.

Here are the straight facts-the sun can be very beneficial. Without it, many of us suffer from depression and other physical and mental issues. That doesn't mean that we should over do it. If you want to enjoy the sunshine, no one will take that away from you. Just remember that an ounce of prevention really does go a long way.

Any time you are going to be exposed to the sun for more than a few minutes-literally, if you're doing much more than going to the mailbox or the corner, you need to apply a decent SPF sunscreen. It doesn't matter how young or old you are, you can stop the damaging rays in their tracks right now. Even if you've got problems with skin cancer or sun spots, you don't need to continue to abuse your skin. Pass the word on, it seems to be catching, so we're making progress.

Changes in sun protection practices with increased awareness of the dangers of UV exposure can turn things around and create a healthier way of life for future generations. Remember to cover up when you're enjoying the sunshine and all of nature's wonders.
